Notice of Concern or Rock Creek!

Here is some additional information I have found regarding the comment period on rock creek. Rock Creek is a very spiritual place to the Shoshone people, and my grandfather, Corbin Harney, held a lot of gatherings and prayers at this special place. Please help us to make sure this place is always accessible to the people. We could really use your letters of support.
Please be sure to get your letters in as soon as possible, before May 6th. Thanks.
Hope you all have a wonderful Easter. We all appreciate your help in this matter.

This message is being sent to you by Peter Bergel at the request of Shundahai Network Board Member Ann Taylor, Corbin Harney's granddaughter.
Hello everyone. This is a letter regarding the land around Rock Creek and we are working with the BLM in the area to get this land so that we will always have access to it. I know a lot of people don't believe in working with the BLM but this would be a good thing for the Shoshone people in keeping our access to this very spiritual place.
Corbin did a lot of ceremonies at Rock Creek and I think it would be well worth it if you all could help us out by submitting your letters, either by using the example form below or writing your own letter and sending it in, supporting this land aquisition. Thanks for taking the time to atleast consider it. I appreciate it.

Support Rock Creek issues.
Rock Creek is a cultural site which has been used by the Newe for hundreds of years. The road going into the site is considered "private land." The private owners may or may not sell the land next to it which may stop our access to Rock Creek.
At this time, the Elko District BLM has submitted a grant package to the State BLM
The comment period starts M a r c h 2 3 , 2 0 0 9 and ends May 6th, 2009
We need to send letters of support so the State Bureau of Land Management will know how vital this site is to Newe people.
Write a letter to support the grant that has been written. If you want to sign onto a form letter, we will gladly send this off for you and your family.

Gentlemen:
We read our history and it has been a trail of deprivation and loss but our Newe people (Human beings) survive because of strength gained through prayer, sweats, visions, doctoring and the continuance of culture which has sustained us for hundreds of years.
As a Newe people, we know that Rock Creek has stood for centuries as a place where we could renew our spirits, heal our bodies, and teach our children the ways we have worshipped since time immemorial.
It is with great sadness, we have learned the access to Rock Creek may be threatened. What a tradegy it would be to cut out our souls and not allow our Newe children to have access to a place where we have prayed, cried, stood, and used the sweats. During the last spiritual gathering, there were more young people than there were adults, which says to us that our young people need Rock Creek to survive the tremendous changes to our culture.
I am strongly in support of the grant package that the Elko District Bureau of Land Management has written on our behalf.
Sincerely,
