Does 2007 feel like it could be the end
of the world?
The DOE plans to revamp US nuclear weapons facilities
to rebuild every weapon in the stockpile under its Complex 2030
plan. . . .
The US is actively seeking new warhead designs for new warfighting
scenarios under the Reliable Replacement Warhead program . . . .
Meanwhile, tensions toward Iran escalate, and scientists set the
Doomsday clock forward as the threat of nuclear war increases. .
. .
So let's say NO! Nevada Desert Experience, Citizen
Alert, the Western Shoshone National Council, the Western Shoshone
Defense Project, the Desert Greens, CROW, and Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists
invite you to join in the…
"Many Faiths One Heart" Sacred Peace
Walk 2007
Culminating in an action at the Nevada Test Site
March 26-April 1, 2007
Peacewalkers:
On March 26th we will gather at the Las Vegas Catholic Worker, and
beginning on March 27th at the Atomic Testing Museum we will walk
65 miles to the Nevada test site. The journey of peace begins inside
as the community of participants bonds through shared ritual, with
spiritual guidance from leaders of many faiths:
Rev. Alan Senauke, Zen priest, Buddhist Peace
Fellowship
Fr. Mark Serna, Benedictine priest, Stillpoint Center and
Brian Kimmel, ordained layman, Thich Nhat Hanh's Order of Interbeing
Anne Key, priestess, Temple of Goddess Spirituality Dedicated to
Sekhmet
Jewish and Muslim leaders (invited)
Johnnie Bobb, Western Shoshone National Council
On the final day we will gather at the gates of
the Test Site to denounce current nuclear plans and other warmaking
preparations at the Test Site, and to propose alternatives for the
land and industry. Our protest will conclude with an optional trespass
action "across the line" of the Nevada Test Site.
Speakers will include Martin Sheen, Colonel Ann
Wright, Jane McAlevey of SEIU, Loulena Miles of Tri-Valley CAREs,
Fr. Louie Vitale ofm, Joanne Sheehan of War Resisters League, Julie
Fischel of the Western Shoshone Defense Project, and members of
the Western Shoshone National Council.
With music by Emma's Revolution and Francisco
Herrera we will also be celebrating our elders - Western Shoshone
spiritual leader Corbin Harney and Franciscan Sr. Rosemary Lynch,
who is turning 90 in March.
Please RSVP for the Peacewalk by March 10!

is an interfaith nonprofit
that has campaigned for an end to nuclear weapons testing since
1982. We are writing you because we know you share our concerns
about the threats of nuclear weapons-related violence looming large
in 2007. From the Bush Administration' s threats of war on Iran,
to political fallout from the North Korean nuclear test, to the
Divine Strake chemical detonation at the Nevada Test Site, to the
new Complex 2030 plan to spend $150 billion on new nuclear weapons,
this is a crucial time for collective action.
In response to the urgent threats of nuclear war
and nuclear terrorism, we are calling members of concerned groups
to gather in the desert near the Nevada Test Site. We will be speaking
out against nuclear proliferation at home and abroad and building
momentum for nuclear abolition, which includes transforming the
Test Site into a facility that serves human and environmental needs.
Would you or your organization be interested in
collaborating with us on this event? We need help ranging from partnering
in the visioning and organizing work, to attending as speakers or
participants, to passing on the word to your members, to endorsing
the event on paper. We appreciate any help and input you are able
to give us.
Our "Many Faiths, One Heart" mobilization
will take place on Sunday, April 1st, 2007. This rally will be the
culmination of our annual 65-mile Sacred Peace Walk from Las Vegas
to the Nevada Test Site, March 27 to Apri1 1. From 10 a.m. to 2
p.m., the rally will feature speakers and musicians from many faiths
as well as our secular allies and will end with an optional, nonviolent
direct action at the gates of the Test Site. The weekend will also
be a chance for people to create a peace camp in the desert outside
the Test Site.
Mark your calendars and consider attending this
gathering on April 1st at the entrance of the Nevada Test Site.
Together let us speak the truth about those forces that are harming
people, land and future through their wasteful nuclear development
and war-making and forge a new way.
Please let us know if you would like to be involved
in this event. We would appreciate your responding by end of January
2007 so we can include you in our planning. Many thanks!
In sincere gratitude for all that you do,
Chelsea Collonge
