“The China Syndrome” A modern nightmare nearly becomes reality in this timely, tension-filled store about an “incident” at a nuclear power plant, and the whistleblower who risks all to expose a cover-up to the media. While this film is fictional, only a few weeks after it was released, the very real incident at Three Mile Island occurred. Starring Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas, and Jack Lemmon. 1979 123 min
February 10
“American Experience: Meltdown at Three-Mile Island” In the predawn hours of March 28, 1979, a reactor at the Three Mile Island nuclear power facility near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, began to overheat. The lives of half a million people soon hung in the balance, as human error and mechanical failure combined to create the worst nuclear accident in American history. 1999 60 min
The film will be preceded by 3 short films:

“Silkwood” On November 13, 1974, Karen Silkwood, an employee of a nuclear facility, left to meet with a reporter from the New York Times. She never got there. This film is regarded as a fairly accurate accounting of the story of Karen Silkwood, a metallurgy worker at a plutonium processing plant who was purposefully contaminated, psychologically tortured and possibly murdered to prevent her from exposing blatant worker safety violations at the plant. Starring Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell, and Cher. 1983 131 min.
