“Trinity and Beyond ” In the salad days of nuclear-weapons testing, the United States detonated 331 atomic, hydrogen, and thermonuclear bombs. Many of those explosions appear in Trinity and Beyond, which utilizes a lot of declassified footage, most of it in color. Standouts include the United States' South Pacific detonation of an atom bomb 90 feet below the water to study the effects on a fleet of ships. If that wasn't enough, the navy also loaded the decks with sheep to study the effects of the blast on life forms. This film will horrify you at the rampant irresponsibility of the Soviets and Americans in their quest for nuclear domination. 1995 120 min.

March 10

“Thirteen Days ” For thirteen extraordinary days in 1962, the world stood on the brink of an unthinkable catastrophe. After the discovery of Soviet weapons in Cuba, events and tension escalate between two military superpowers and within the White House. President John F. Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, and Special Assistant to the President Kenneth P. O’Donnell are in the hot seat as they struggle to prevent nuclear war. 2000 147 min.

March 17

“The Day After ” Few American movies have dealt as graphically with nuclear holocaust as The Day After, which accounted for the controversy that surrounded the telefilm at the time of its initial network broadcast. Audiences are briefly introduced to a cross-section of American life, before the Bomb hits nearby Kansas City. The ensuing destruction is utterly horrific, but a few manage to survive to struggle vainly with the slow, inevitable collapse of society. Jason Robards, John Lithgow, Steve Guttenberg. 1983 127 min.

March 24

“Amazing Grace and Chuck” Will we ever have world peace because sports players quit playing? Not likely. But, take a boy who wishes for world peace, a supporting family, and a sports legend that believes his dream and you have an enjoyable family movie. 1990 120 min.

March 31

“Atomic Journeys - Welcome to Ground Zero ” Our atomic heritage resides in sites all over the country--from the Trinity test area to natural-gas wells in Colorado--and many of them are open to the public. Never-before-seen footage of test explosions and top-secret and work labs explores the history of America's nuclear programs, and interviews with current and former atomic scientists and engineers give depth to sights such as "the most bombed place on Earth" in Nevada. Narrated by William Shatner. 1999 52 min

"Nuclear Crisis" A brief history of nuclear weapons testing and grassroots opposition to it. 2000 15 min

“Nuclear Nightmare a brief documentary about nuclear waste issues, including opposition to the WIPP facility in New Mexico. 2002 7 min.
